    Job opportunity at Gannett | USA TODAY NETWORK - Senior NBA Reporter

    USA TODAY Sports Network is seeking an experienced Senior NBA Sports Reporter to work on breaking league news, both for on and off the field issues, for USA TODAY and the USA TODAY Sports Network. The ideal candidate will have established contacts throughout the league and be able to deliver breaking news in real-time and news-oriented features content for digital and print. The candidate will also be expected to do video, FB Live and Instagram on a regular basis. The ideal candidate will have the ability to work closely with multiple teams while maintaining the high standards of USA TODAY Sports and the USA TODAY NETWORK.



    Responsibilities:


    • Creates storytelling that accurately informs, entertains and engages specific audiences and platforms through the use of metrics.
    • Breaking news and be our main voice on NBA news.
    • Needs to show the ability to break and confirm news in a timely manner for usatodaysports.com and then follow through with more detail for digital and print.
    • Work with social media team to execute content strategies on emerging platforms.
    • Communicate with NBA Editor and other members of the NBA team to create and share ideas and story leads.
    • Work closely with USA TODAY Sports Network properties to expand traffic across entire network.


    Requirements:

    • Bachelor's or master’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing or related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Previous reporting experience on the NBA beat.
    • Must have established contacts in all areas of the NBA, from players to agents to the NBA office to NFPA.
    • Excel at meeting deadlines and understands the strategic importance of digital first, 24x7 delivery.
    • Proficiency on social media platforms; including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Reddit.
    • Experience shooting and editing photos and video on an iPhone.
    • Strong communication skills, news judgement and headline-writing ability.
    • Ability to multitask and excel under intense deadline pressure.
    • Ability to work collaboratively and efficiently.
    • Strong writing, spelling and grammar skills; familiarity with AP style.
    • This role requires a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and the minimum liability insurance required by state law.
