    Title: Senior Editor for RapidReports
    Reports to: Deputy Managing Editor of CBSSports.com
    Location: Fort Lauderdale, FL

    Organization:
    - Direct reports include evolving stable of embedded correspondents who provide content to CBSSports.com, and team of editors.
    - Works with Deputy M.E. (Writers), A.M.E. (News desk) and A.M.E. (Production Editors) to integrate content from network of stringers.

    Experience requirements:
    - Online/newspaper editorial work in sports.
    - Editorial planning and online content management.
    - 7-10 years of Editorial experience and at least 5-plus years online preferred.
    - Minimum 5 years of management experience dealing with writers.

    Role & responsibilities:
    - Recruitment, hiring and maintenance of RapidReports correspondents/editors.
    - Supervisory role of RapidReports content operation.
    - Works with RapidReport editors to refine content/best practices.
    - Spearhead training of RapidReports correspondents and editors.
    - Roadmap future RR initiatives; which sports to target and why.
    - Working with APM for RR on product planning, tools, production system.
    - Administration duties: Expenses, invoices, set up accounts, credentials, equipment.
    - Expected to help cultivate a voice and personality consistent with Editorial vision.
    - Assign stories from beats or for special event coverage; arrange travel.
    - Vet pitched stories/budgets; make decisions based on Editorial plans/packages.
    - Copy editing, headline/cutline writing, photo editing.
    - Conceive/generate story ideas that would be interesting to users.

    Ideal candidate:
    - Operational savvy; adept at management of the moving parts.
    - Significant media industry and interactive experience.
    - Strong strategic planning skills and the ability to execute through a team of writers.
    - Journalistic innovation and initiative to discover new ways to inform users.
    - Proven leadership success in an editorial role managing a team of writers.
    - Must possess exemplary judgment and decision-making skills.
    - Innovative individual; possesses vision across online/multimedia.
    - Uncomfortable with the status quo; always looking to improve.
    - Trustworthy, committed, considerate and skilled; high emotional IQ.
    - Able to develop a staff, individually and on a macro level.

    Compensation:
    - Base salary
    - Full benefits including family medical, dental, life insurance and matching 401(k)

    While I'm not a "no phone calls" guy, you'll still have to go through this link eventually.

    Please note: In this job, being able to handle the administrative responsibilities -- finding Rapid Reporters, being involved in getting them paid, getting them the tools to do their job (BlackBerrys, et al), credentialing -- will be almost as important as the editorial responsibilities. If you don't like administration, this isn't the job for you. But it could be a great job, with a lot of growth potential, if you do.

  4. From what I've heard, they are expected to expand their Rapid Reports coverage to the NBA whenever the season begins.

    Unless there's something I'm unaware of -- unlikely, at least today -- this is not currently in the pipeline. So with all respect to tripleoption34, A) This job is currently filled very capably and B) there are no current plans to add another editor at this level.

    Just trying to save people some application time.
