One of them could face the Yuma (Az.) Criminals in an intra-state matchup.

in Louisiana, there's both Bearcats AND Bearkats.
so when covering those teams, newbie scribes have to watch for the spelling.

Ruston High Bearcats: alma mater of former NFL quarterback Bert Jones, ex-NFL linebacker Michael Brooks and 2008 Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee Fred Dean; and current NFLers Patrick Ramsey (Broncos), Kyle Williams (Bills) and Mike Green (Redskins).

Bossier High Bearkats...located hour to west of Ruston High, but seldom do two teams collide in a battle of The 'Cats (or 'Kats); different classifications.

Some of those schools might not be around anymore because of consolidation.

From North of the border, in Alberta, a few of my favourites

    Vilna Hazard
Castor Raiders (gotta say it out loud)
    Strathcona Lords
    The Grandin Ghosts
    The Archbishop Jordan Scots

Creativity for sports names not to high on the priority list up here unfortunately. those are prbably some of the better ones, unless the rest of SJ.ab.ca wants to chime in.
