Except for first-round compensation picks, of course.

 

Then you still got a year of Johan Santana and draft picks.

I saw Phil Humber play in high school and college, and he could be big-time one day ... nowhere near Santana, but solid.

Needless to say, taking this deal over the Yankees' and Red Sox's offers is asinine.

I can buy the theory that the Twins didn't want Santana coming back to face them repeatedly in the next few seasons. But seriously ... there wasn't another NL team that was willing to belly up to the bar and offer, you know, players that can make a difference right now for Johan?

Not one? With real MLB players as opposed to kernels that may blossom when they get to The Show or sink to the bottom of the bucket?

 

Guess that trumps the Pedro Feliz signing, huh?
