    This is a guy who's only a couple of years removed from college taking a beatwriting position. I doubt seriously he's going to make $60,000 immediately.

    And it's the LA Times, not some podunk operation, so he's not going to be making 25K... 50K or close to it is probably right

    I'm sure he took whatever they offered him.

    My guess, $50k-$60k. I've got a couple of friends who made similar salaries at large metros right out of school.
