Ruth Ann Steinhagen, 'Baseball Annie' has died

The woman who inspired Barbara Hershey's character in The Natural just recently died.
I had no idea she was still alive. I thought she threw herself out the window after shooting Waitkus.

Hope there are additional stories about her life that come out.

I made a special point of running a story about this in Monday's paper. I even dug up a photo of her from that time.

 

We let news take it and they put it in the obit pages. We just were too squeezed with tourney stuff

 

i think i saw a picture of her granddaughter and a louisville slugger on google images a few years back.

 

Man, that is messed up.

 

I think the term 'Baseball Annie' incorporates a bit more than murderous teenyboppers. Otherwise the road to Sauget, Ill. would be littered with dead Cardinals.
