I saw that thread. I should have thrown in something Batman-ish.

And would somehow beating Oregon save Neuheisel's job? BTW, now Houston can boast that it beat a team that's playing for a BCS conference title.

UCLA isn't going to beat Oregon but if it did Slick Rick would become first coach fired right after Rose Bowl.

Kevin Sumlin will be mentioned for more than a couple of these jobs.

Isn't Colorado State going to fire Steve Fairchild? How long can a coach survive on three wins a year?

Freeze could be a guy for Memphis too ... seriously.

I agree. He's a fast riser with Mississippi roots, Memphis ties and a track record as a head coach (albeit mostly at the high school and NAIA levels). Hiring him is like taking a Mark Reynolds swing; hiring Houston Nutt was more like emulating Pete Rose. Either way, in baseball or at Mississippi, you're only going to get a hit 20-35 percent of the time. Why not swing for the fences?

Also, shouldn't Ohio State technically be listed as "Open," since Fickell is under contract to be head coach for just this one season.

There are rumors that Maryland is at least considering bouncing Randy Edsall. I don't think that's a likely outcome though, and that's too bad.

If Maryland fired Edsall it would be one of the dumbest firings ever and whoever is running that joint should be fired for incompetency as well

A lot of fans want the AD fired, too. But this Edsall hiring is a disaster. He's alienating everyone, be it players, fans, alums, and apparently even AD staff. He's not only not winning, he's not coming close to winning. And the school is going to realize that while it can't afford to fire him now, it's probably not far off from being unable to afford to not fire him. Donations and season tickets are going to plummet even more next year as much because he's so completely arrogant and unlikeable as his coaching is just bad.
