Funny, in a morbid sort of way.

He's right, the press is negligent. They've allowed a murdering drug addict to be a Senator since 1962.

Would that be the same neglient press that covered up every marital indiscretion by his father and his uncles John and Teddy?

Having done the same for Eisenhower, and McCarthy, how could they have done any less?

Age-old dynamic. Shoot the messenger, especially if the messenger is -- gasp! flawed in some way -- and especially if the message cuts too close to the quick. Who cares if the message is true.

Point taken. But I never heard of a descendent of Eisenhower or McCarthy bitching about how the press lets politicians off the hook. And no American political leader every got the kid-glove treatment the Kennedy brothers got.

I'll listen to Kennedy Jr.'s argument from almost anyone else, except a Kennedy. In other words, that family wants the media to do its job and ferret out everything, except when it comes to their womanizing, and hanging out with Mafia guys.

He said what he said. Maybe, on some level, the two of you agree.

'Course, Jack thought he was bigger than Organized Crime.

    Silly rabbit.

The press for the most part is negligent, because of screwed up priorities. If Ted Kennedy called someone a nigger or a kike, it would have caused a shitstorm. He murders someone, and nothing happens.

You can't disagree with the quote, but has anyone ever actually watched an entire broadcast of the Lehrer News Hour without having known someone appearing on it? Even if all those fluff stories went away, would the viewer be educated if he's not watching?

I'm reminded of the old Bill James mini-essay on cancer research, and how the general public, based on the way they spend their time and money, feels that baseball is more important. Something might be 'right' and truly 'more important', but if the public doesn't care, what can you do?
