RIP to a Philadelphia basketball icon and legend. Was an outstanding collegiate player at then La Salle College. He had more than 2,000 points and rebounds for his career. He sacrificed his game to become a 5-time All-Star in the NBA. Could play center, guard and forward. He could do it all.

From many accounts, one of the first players to make use of what is now considered the 'pure' jump shot, as opposed to a running one-hand push shot (as was Paul Arizin, another LaSalle product of similar size who preceded him into the NBA by five seasons).

Right you are Starman. Oh and so not to confuse those who don't know, Both Arizin and Gola went to Las Salle High School. Arizin played collegiately at Villanova.

Read a ton about him last night and, wow, sounds like not just a fantastic player, but an even better gentleman.

    RIP...
