I met and interviewed Dawn Wells when she signed autographs at a baseball game a couple years back. She said that as a running joke, she/Johnson/Tina Louise, when corresponding with one another, sign off by not signing their name, but simply, "the rest."

But Tina Louise wasn't one of "...and the rest."

Oh, hell, here's some trivia ... at what institution of higher education did The Professor take his PhD?

I always hoped the Prof was dropping the hammer on Ginger.

The man could turn a coconut and a little bamboo into anything.

    RIP.

Back in the 1980s, a friend of mine in the government had some correspondence with Russell Johnson, who eventually came to D.C. for some informal lobbying efforts. (Coconut subsidies, maybe.) Great guy, I think. RIP.

Yeah, but he couldn't even tell when Ginger or Mary Ann were coming on to him.

Which skill is worth more on a deserted island?

Reading up on the Gilligan cast, Bob Denver actually went to the producers and asked that Johnson and Mary Wells be given the full credit just like the rest of the cast. The producers didn't want to shell out the money to rerecord the song, so Denver told them to take his name off of it and put him with "the rest". The producers changed their minds pretty quickly.

Mary Wells said she didn't find out until years later that Denver had gone to the producers to get them to change the song.
