RIP Robin Roberts (the Phillie, not TV host)

    "SportsCenter" reporting the Phillies great died.

    My very first (as at age 5-6) sports hero. He was also a good guy. Damn. Baseball losing some of its best this week.

    Aside from his pitching exploits, Roberts was also an early baseball labor leader. He was instrumental in the hiring of Marvin Miller to lead the MLBPA, for which today's millionaires owe him a debt of gratitude.

    Like Ernie Harwell, Robin Roberts has Michigan ties - he played at Michigan State.

    Met him at a card show in 1988 when I was 13. VERY nice and accomodating.

    I saw the Posnanski story and I immediately thought of the female Robin. I'm guessing most people did.
