Dead at 92. One of the most famous chefs in France, along with his late brother Jean, as the prime innovators, along with Paul Bocuse, of nouvelle cuisine. Their restaurant, Troisgros, in the middle-of-nowhere town of Roanne, has had the maximum three Michelin starts since 1968 (It is now run by Pierre's son Michel and his grandson Cesar, and has been for some years. I have had the distinct good fortune to eat there three times, 1984, 1994, and 2012. Worth a special journey indeed.

RIP. My wife loved France for the cuisine, the bread and the cheese.

And apparently, the rough translation of his name into English is "Peter three large."
