    His new posthumous novel is out--covers his time at Newsweek, with many of the characters very thinly disguised versions of his real-life colleagues. Enjoying it so far.

    Like how much he'd had to drink or what other substances he might have been partaking?

    That's my first thought on hearing of a guy running a car into a tree while driving alone at 4 a.m.

    The guy was on a raft of drugs. Read up on it.
    He acted foolishly and it cost him his life.
    The only conspiracy was the one he enacted against himself.
