One of the best straight men in any form of entertainment.

Rare instance of him breaking character here.

Mean Gene was so good at what he did that his “bloopers” are legendary because he so rarely lost it.

    My personal fave:

And father of University of Minnesota forward - and for four games in 1987-88, a New York Islander - Todd Okerlund.

To me the greatest interviewer, hype man, whatever you want to call it, in wrestling history. His indignation when Hogan joined the nWo was awesome, to me that was him at the top of his game.

A voice of my childhood right up there with Summerall, Madden, Enberg, etc. RIP.

There’s a really good blooper of Okerlund cracking up during an AWA interview with Dr. D David Schultz, where Schultz plays along and asks Gene what is so funny.

He truly was one of the great voices of my childhood. As said before, his reaction to Hogan joining the NWO is incredible, especially when you consider how much history was between them.

    RIP

Lotta great work that night, Mean Gene and Hogan in the ring and Heenan at ringside.

Mean Gene Okerlund ... staple of my childhood. He knew how to play the part.

He was Fred Mertz of the wrestling world.

No doubt. That was the best mic work of Hogan’s career and Mene Gene facilitated it. A true legend. RIP
