Dude could really play. My friend's dad owned a drum shop in which Louis Bellson frequented. Bellson was asked who was better, himself or Buddy Rich. Bellson said, I can do anything Buddy can do, Buddy can do anything I can do. Neither of us can do what Ginger Baker can do.

I was too young to be in to Cream much, but thanks to YouTube, the wonders of guys like Ginger Baker are still discoverable. Drummers like him are best when seen as well as heard. He's definitely in the upper echelon. Too bad he and Bruce despised each other so much.

Nor was I implying you did, but for a guy like Bellson to say that about Baker as compared to him and Rich, that is some really rarified air.

Yes, absolutely. Bellson was more rational, Rich the egomaniac. Baker, genius whack-job.
