    I can't imagine anyone doing a better job with that role portraying someone who seemed lovable, kind, scary and unhinged.

    Johnny Depp is quite an actor, but sure didn't improve on it.

    thing i read today: the movie that became Trading Places with Dan Aykroyd and Eddie Murphy was originally going to be made with Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor, but then Pryor had his freebasing accident and it was shelved

    I would watch that. I can't see anything improving on Murphy and Aykroyd, but that sounds like it could also be very good.
