Oneof my all-time favorites suffered a heart attack last month and died this morning. "Red Clay" took the baton from Miles' "Bitches' Brew" and nudged jazz toward fusion before Herbie Hancock's "Headhunters" took it all the way. I listened hard to "Red Clay" and his Blue Note stuff and wished -- hell, still wish -- I could play with Hub's big, bold tone.

    Keep groovin', Hub.

First saw him at a noon concert in the campus amphitheater at the junior college I attended in 1971.
Still have a couple of his albums on vinyl.
    Awesome guy, awesome talent.
