RIP ESPN’s Edward Aschoff

“Devastated to hear my friend @AschoffESPN has passed away after a battle with pneumonia.”

I’m numb ... it was his birthday, too.

 

Ed was terrific. Beloved by those around the SEC/who covered CFB/knew him. A great guy. Engaged to his longtime girlfriend. Absolutely gutted.

 

This sucks. Christmas Eve and his birthday.

 

I worked at ESPN with Ed for a few years. I probably kept in touch with less than five people at ESPN when I left.

Less than four people.

Just a good good good good man.

 

Enjoyed reading his work. Just 34 years old. Damn.

 

I never specifically noticed him and probably couldn’t pick him out of a lineup — but I hope even one person will be so kind to me as the masses are to Ed on his untimely death.

Aschoff contracted pneumonia covering Ohio State’s 56-27 victory over archival Michigan on Nov. 30, according to his Instagram page. He also tweeted about the illness, describing himself as someone “who never gets sick and has a very good immune system.”
