Also one of the biggest bands ever that hasn't really had a biopic done on.

Here they come: Jeff Beck, Pete Townshend, David Gilmour, Knopfler, yadda yadda. Don't forget Keith or Papa Chuck. Or Prince.
But EVH was right up near the top no matter how many deep you go.

Which song do you even start with first? They were as a big a part of the '80s as anyone or thing.

Jump is a perfect high school basketball entrance song.

    Above the fold? We'll see.
The sad part is? While worthy, I think most of the people who put a daily newspaper together just think of him as an "old rocker" (if that). And the people who will get upset the most are a small part of the subscribers, who tend to be even older.
I do hope NPR plays a few prime cuts on ATC or ME in the next day or so - that will be fun.

My musical diet in the late 70s was evolving thanks to the advent of AOR. Along with long-form classical and jazz, Van Halen's early albums fit right in with the Russians and the early 20th-century art music I kept in high rotation.

Oh, you'll hear quibbles on Clapton all day. Wouldn't be in my top 30.

I think Page gets wildly overrated too.

Hendrix is number one, and I'm not arguing with Eddie being near the top after that.

There was a stretch in high school basketball where we would run out to "I'll Wait". Just needed a keyboard, a drummer and a bass player and you're good to go.

My spine is tingling as I remember this from 30 years ago.
