    The NBA franchises have withdrawn their support the past several years.

    Right, but that league wouldn't have gotten its legs underneath it from the start without the NBA backing. It allowed the WNBA to take some losses in those first few years.

    The pay thing is really misleading. The overseas teams that pay big bucks are playthings for Russian gazillionaires. Those teams don't actually make money. They are hobbies that hemorrhage cash.

    So what? The other leagues existed and paid better. No great vision in thinking a league could succeed in the US, especially when another women's league was started before the WNBA.
