1,108 hits, nearly 78% of them singles.

I doubt he’s the leader, but I wonder if those who had 1,000 hits, who had the highest percentage of singles.

Plus he hit more HRs than triples, which for a speedy, light-hitting guy seems unusual.

Just checked Omar Vizquel. Singles were 78.6% of his hits, less than a percent more than Garcia.

Doesn't meet the 1,000 hits requirement, but Rafael Belliard went 86% singles. In 17 years in the majors, he hit 2 home runs--one in 1987 and one in 1997.

Mario Mendoza had 287 base hits, only 46 of which went for extra bases. So 83.97% of his base hits were singles. How appropriate, even if he didn't have 1,000 career hits.

Lloyd Waner (Little Poison) had 2,459 hits, of which 82.67% (2,043) were singles. Richie Ashburn, Nellie Fox was also over 80%. Rare but not unusual.

I was curious about Tony Gwynn, so I looked it up: 3,141 hits, 2,378 singles, 75.7%

    Ichiro: : 3,089 hits, 2,514 singles, 81.4%
