Longtime Denver Post outdoors columnist was 72. Lung cancer. Always enjoyed his work on what is a huge beat out here.

    RIP, Charlie.

He made an impact that in an area about which he was passionate and knowledgeable. You can't ask for much more than that in life.

What a fine tribute by Paige.

Cheers from the readers are great. Respect and true appreciation from your peers is better.

My desk was opposite Charlie's for the better part of four years. He wasn't in the office a ton, but he was always in a good mood, always pleasant and always had a nice word for everyone. During my time in Denver, I don't think I ever heard anyone say a negative word about Charlie.

He was a wonderful writer and a wonderful man.
