So says my local news radio.

CNN.com is also reporting, but no links yet.

Gorbachev and Yeltsin are responsible for the fact that we are all here today. If Reagan was on the losing end of the COld War, he would have went out with a bang, a nuclear bang. Gorbachev and Yeltsin folded, discretion being the better part of valor.

RIP and here's hoping there's enough vodka to last an eternity for Yeltsin.

Oh, I don't think there is enough vodka for him.

And, if the old Soviet way of getting news out is still in effect now, he could have died like two months ago and we just now would be finding out.

    RIP you old red-nosed bastard.

The yardstick by which all drunk everywhere must be judged. Nastrovya, Borishka.

Shane McGowan or Charles Bukowski may top that list. Or that lady with the .47 or whatever it was blood alcohol content.

  7. RIP.
My favorite moment came when he had the tanks blasting away at the Parliament building during the Worst Coup Attempt Ever, and all the old Commies were hiding under their desks, and CNN kept calling them the "hardliners."

I just discovered my Firefox browser does not read Cyrillic.

Sure, there are others in the pantheon, including Dylan Thomas, who can spike a number, or even post a couple of lost years. But for duration, for hang time - across several decades - I think Yeltsin's your man.
