Won almost everything over the course of his career, but couldn't snag a Kentucky Derby

He won five Eclipse awards as trainer of the year, including four straight from 2000-03.

A horse from his stable won a Grade 1 race every year since 1988 through this year, and his horses earned $227,947,775 over his career, putting him second only to D. Wayne Lukas all time.

Derby was never his main objective, though he managed a placing in one. Once he latched onto monied owners, his game was mature distince horses, especially grass types. Had all the cunning you could want,
spotted his horses well and managed them beautifully. Bet your ass I liked to bet him, when the situations were right. RIP.
