Just got the AP news alert that Bobby Fisher has died.

Story says he was 64 and died in Iceland.

  2. Wasn't he in that movie with Tommy Lee Jones?

Hey, someone had to do it.

RIP, batshit chess guy. Must have been pretty painful to be Jewish and anti-Semitic at the same time.

Any chance we can shit-can the Brad Renfro stuff now? No? OK, never mind.

With the obligatory Renfro reference out of the way, I'll add this:

    I guess heaven needed a rabid anti-Semite.

I remember the piece Jr. Schaap did on him.

That was a weird, weird bird.

To mock or ease or honor the passing of this tortured soul, go to your copy of Best American Sports Writing of the Century (we all have one, right?), and re-read Brad Darrach's 1973 Fischer piece from Playboy, "The Day Bobby Blew It." A classic.

  10. You know, I was reading that story on Wednesday for no reason. I just thought of it out of nowhere, snagged the book and started reading it.

I'm legitimately weirded out right now.

    RIP.

Guess no one's searching for him now.

I guess God needed an opponent in chess. He was sick of beating everyone. The last time God lost, the Almighty banished the winner from Heaven. Hopefully he learned how to be a better sport since then.
