I heard that Bob passed away over the weekend.

He was one of New England's foremost golf writers for a couple of decades and wrote several books, most of them on history and golf course architecture. He recently was diagnosed with ALS.

I first met Bob at the U.S. Open at The Country Club in '88, and I had the pleasure of spending some wonderful summer or autumn afternoons with him, playing delightful courses — hidden gems, I guess you'd call them.

He truly was one of the good guys.

    RIP.
