Rio Grande, also the college home of the great Bevo Francis.

not bad grub, the few times I went.

    Friendly servers, too.

Just tell 'em "Large Marge" sent you.

Pot roast and turkey plates are the best anywhere.

    Good mashed taters, also.

    Beats Denny's with one-hand.

sounds like he went from "down on the farm" to buying the farm.

Used to grub at the one in Kalamazoo when I was there covering the Big League Softball World Series. Alternated between that and the Cracker Barrel, although the biscuits and gravy at Bob Evans were some of the best I've ever had.

Ate there with my son two years ago when we were coming back from Chicago. Hondo's right, it blows Denny's out of the water.

    R.I.P.

Had the opportunity to meet and talk with Bob Evans for a short magazine feature while I was in college. We spent 40 or 50 minutes across from each other, and I was struck by his simplicity and sense of normalcy despite everything he had created and built.

He offered to pick up lunch, too.

Don't remember a word I wrote about him, but I can recall his cadence and smile.

Isn't this Bobby Knight's favorite place to eat? Do I remember that correctly from Brink?

Awww, I always loved stopping at Bob Evans for road trips. Infinitely better food than Cracker Barrel.

I only discovered Bob Evans restaurants in the last few years but I use them on road trips now every chance I get. To me they represent an ideal combination of good food, good variety, cost-effectiveness and cleanliness. Sometimes you have to be careful not to knock over senior citizens crowding the waiting area, though.
