Ex-Georgetown SID Bill Shapland Georgetown sports information director Bill Shapland has died at the age of 57. The school said Shapland passed away Friday after being hospitalized for an illness.
Shapland was the enforcer for John Thompson's "Hoya Paranoia" no-nonsense dealings with the media during much of the Hall of Fame coach's tenure at Georgetown. Shapland was the SID from 1984 to 2005 and had since been serving as the school's senior sports communications director.

RIP. Shapland was difficult to work with at times but I respected what he did. It was his job to limit information and he did it well. He made you work for a story.
