Threw a no-hitter, and was on the '69 Mets team. He was 72.

    Tough day for ex-NYC pitchers.

Saw a tape of the end of the no-hitter . . . saved by a shoetop catch by Cub (and ex-Dodger) OF Moose Moryn.

I interviewed Cardwell for a book about players talking about a great accomplishment (unpublished - anyone interested? :) :)) and he couldn't have been nicer. I don't have it in front of me, but I believe he said he was scheduled to pitch Game 6 or Game 7 of the '69 Series.

Seventeen shutouts and 15 home runs. Not too shabby.

Clearly, he did not throw the no-hitter for the Mets.

    RIP.

Yeah, but Nolan Ryan, Dwight Gooden, David Cone, Tom Seaver and Hideo Nomo did.

    Oh, wait. ...

Yeah but who can top their 30 one-hitters! Isn't the beauty in the pursuit?

At least the Mets are good at something.

    Emulating the '64 Phils, say.

For starters. I can't wait for their encore.
