    The guy embodied FAME.
He didn't love football, just was really good at it.
And he still had success ... maybe even Hall of Fame success.

    But he's no Tim Tebow.

Why don't you take open mic night to another thread.
This one is to discuss Ricky Williams' career and credentials.

Perhaps he figured, based on the thread title, that this wasn't meant to be a serious discussion.

Well, he had a great college career, and it's not just about pro football.

Wait ... it's the Pro Football Hall of Fame? Fuck and no.

You know who else was famous? Ickey Woods.

    Without question.

That's the Hall of Fame we're talking about, right?

26th leading rusher? 66 career rushing TDs? Nah. If he had enjoyed playing football more, or had more of a competitive desire, he'd have surely made it.

No HOF, but a very good pro football player.

After the Steelers got knocked out, I really wanted to see him and Reed get rings.

That was my initial thought. I mean, he belongs in the college football HOF. But Canton? Get the fuck outta here.

He's not going to get in, but considering he took a couple years off in the middle of his prime, his numbers are pretty damn impressive. But he can't get those years back and has no one but himself to blame for it.

And just because it's worth reading again, here's Chris Jones's 2004 Esquire article on how he found Williams in Australia. Beats any discussion on his HOF credibility.

Everybody was looking for him in the months after he bolted the NFL last summer and before he abruptly returned to America this fall. But it turns out he was never that hard to find....
