    From jjobs.com...

    Company: Enterprise-Journal
    Position: Reporter-page design-sports assistant
    Location: McComb, Mississippi
    Job Status: Full-time
    Salary: $20,000 to $25,000
    Ad Expires: August 6, 2009
    Job ID: 541259

Energetic reporter and page desinger needed.

Can you conjugate a verb? Can you avoid the passive voice and not throw around apostrophes like Frisbees? If so, this 10,000 circulation southwestern Mississippi daily wants you.

This position also requires frequent page layout, including pinch-hitting for our sports editor at least once a week and doing some periodic magazine layout. Quark experience is preferred, though applicants who have used InDesign will be considered.

Degree in Journalism or related field required. Newspaper experience preferred. Good benefit package (health/401K). McComb is centrally located between Jackson, Natchez and Hattiesburg, Miss., and New Orleans and Baton Rouge, La.

Please send cover letter, resume, 3-4 clips and references to Maatt Williamson, Managing Editor, P.O.B. 2009, McComb MS 39649, fax (601) 684-0836 or e-mail news@enterprise-journal.com. Incomplete materials will not be considered. No phone calls.

All you page desingers out there, belly up to the bar... :D

Would've been nice if someone had proofread the ad. Matt Williamson, a good guy from all accounts, spells his name with one A.

Does this mean they finally hired the SE they'd been advertising for?

We did a thread on that one earlier.

    See thread:

This one was four pages back on the Jobs board, but did they fill it?

Matt is excellent people and one of the better folks to work for in this business. And he's a hell of a drummer.

This job isn't strictly sports, so be warned for those wanting to cover South Pike's football team. It's more of a full-time designer job.

Based on the paper's Web site, Dale Constance (formerly of the Pontotoc Progress) took over as sports editor around mid-June. As for this job, the person who previously held it was basically the lead designer. She did the front page and most of the other inside pages every day. On Mondays, she did sports (that's one of the sports editor's days off). She also had a news beat. This is definitely not a sports job.

Matt Williamson is a good guy and the Enterprise-Journal is a nice little paper. You could do a heckuva lot worse when it comes to newspapers or places to live.

I'm sure it's a fine organization, but that pine tree logo must go... :-[...also, be very prepared to lay out long stories about little league baseball...http://www.enterprise-journal.com/articles/2009/07/08/sports/01.txt
