No, that's closer to Carson City ... or so I've heard.

Is Grand Siena even open yet? As I understand it, they're in the last stages of a post-bankruptcy retrofit that may or may not be complete.

Please post a trip report, however. I am going there in late April for an academic convention -- geeks on an expense account, won't that be fun? -- and, having never been there, am antsy for some info. My conference is at the Peppermill, but I am planning on staying at the Eldorado, as I have a relationship there and can pull down some points for my occasional visits to their property in Shreveport.

I've always wanted to go rafting/kayaking on the Truckee River, right through the city.

My kid did that when we were there for volleyball festival. She had a blast.
I had no problem with the Silver Legacy, enjoyed it, actually, and won in the casino. They even have no-smoking blackjack pits. But anything would have been an improvement after the Circus Circus the year before. Eldorado would even be better since it is farther from Circus Circus, although all three are connected.

It's been a while, but is the buffet at Circus Circus still the Hometown Buffet starter kit? I have heard good things about the new ballpark there, where the D'backs' PCL team plays. University of Nevada is just north of downtown, north of I-80.

There's a great restaurant down in Carson City called Red's 395. A huge beer list, a good lodge atmosphere and a vegetarian's nightmare.

    Reno, oh gosh.

My last trip there, I stayed at the Golden Phoenix, but of course that building isn't even a casino anymore. Apparently it's a condo building now, because who wouldn't want a condo in Reno?

It is definitely a walkable city, at least between the casinos, which is a big plus in my opinion. Other than that, I don't have many pluses to report.

    Go to Vegas instead

Even if I could only stay underneath an I-15 overpass, I would always take Vegas over Reno ... unfortunately, not my choice.

    Thanks, Webby!

We're thinking of driving to Virginia City on Saturday.
