Relocation not paid?

Discussion in 'Journalism topics only' started by Jor El, Mar 13, 2007.

  1. just took a job with a paper in kentucky that is a weekly. in my in-person interview, the publisher asked me if I had any questions, and I brought up the moving expenses. When I told him what we needed, which was over a thousand, he didn't even budge and said, "It's taken care of." Now that's a strong outfit, and one I am proud to say I will be working for.

Then I guess the paper thinks I really want to come home.

I always said I would like to go home. Never said I was desparate.

MOVING IS EXPENSIVE. Not only the immediate costs. But, once you get there.
That old couch and love seat doesn't quite fit in the new house or apartment. Phone, Electric and Cable companies want deposits on all new accounts. It goes on and on and on...
If a company won't pay to move me, I'm not going.

Are they offering your wife a job too? If not, you're incurring relocation expenses AND cutting your household income by half, no?

Turned them down. They didn't seem too bothered. Ho hum.

But, really, thanks for input. I think I saved myself a lot of headaches and a bankruptcy filing.
