Fair enough. Guess I'd better fix my spelling in my last message to a guy. Thanks!

One gets the impression that taking Reilly away from Sports Illustrated was ESPN's primary motive, and what it does with him -- however much or little -- barely matters to the WWL.

His stint at ESPN reminds me of Joe Louis greeting customers at a casino.

    Dickie Dunn wrote it.

He was trying to capture the spirit of the thing.

I was thinking Willie Mays stumbling around the outfield for the Mets in 1973.

I'm reviving this thread from the dead because I think I just noticed another example of Reilly's penchant for reviving dead column ideas, except this time it was another writer's idea.

Does his current "rules for storming the court" column (http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/news/story?id=4961547) not bear a striking resemblance to this Forde piece (http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/columns/story?columnist=forde_pat&id=2306416) a few years ago?

There's nothing more cliched and out of touch than a bunch of sportswriters trying to lecture fans on what sort of legal celebrations are and aren't acceptable. This sanctimonious attitude that you have to codify spontaneous celebrations has gotten annoying. It reads like someone believes they're "too good" to enjoy what's happening.
