....because coaches weren't being paid the same $40k bonus as the players.

I heard about the coach payment issue this morning. Didn't know the Sox were going to boycott though.

My guess is this will be solved quickly.

Note to Red Sox staff: I'll gladly take your place on the trip. Paying for my own meals seems like a pretty good deal in exchange for free airfare and hotel rooms in Japan.

Given that the Sox (and As) are probably sacrificing an above-.500 record in April for this trip, I don't blame them for wanting to milk a little more moola out of it. If the Sox bullpen catcher (technically, a coach) really does make only $30K, I'm all for this job action/
It's good to see the players thinking of people other than themselves.

Apparently the Oakland players are refusing to go, too.

Red Sox refusing to take the field for today's exhibition game against Toronto, live right now on ESPN.

Man, there are going to be some pissed off retirees if this game is canceled.

What does that mean? Are you suggesting that by traveling to Japan, the Red Sox and A's are at a disadvantage in comparison to the rest of the league?

Update: Dice-K will not pitch against the Jays today but will instead pitch in a minor-league exhibition game at 1 p.m.

So why should the support staff get $40k for this trip? Why not $10k?
