Realignment gone crazy -- Sun Belt style

Apparently conferences without geographic sense include the low-majors now. The Sun Belt Conference is adding FCS powers Appalachian State (N.C.) and Georgia Southern, New Mexico State and Idaho. Not sure how this makes sense for nonrevenue sports teams traveling from N.C. to Idaho, but whatever.

Idaho and NMSU were in the Sun Belt before joining the WAC after the 16-team WAC split apart when the original WAC schools left to form the Mountain West. Of course this all happened when you were 5 so you might not remember.

 

OK, well they were just re-invited to join teams from Georgia and North Carolina. It seems a bit ridiculous.

As for micro's comment, hell, I remember NMSU in the Big West, back when Boise State and Idaho joined the conference after leaving the Big Sky.

Sounds like an episode of Lost. The state of Idaho moves from the Big Sky to the east to the sun belt, all within a year.

 

Boone, N.C., to pretty much any-friggin'-where is ridiculously difficult. It's at least an hour's drive "off the mountain" to an airport.
