R.I.P. Rich Brenner, NC sportscaster

Discussion in 'Journalism topics only' started by lone star scribe, Feb 28, 2012.

  1. Rich Brenner, a longtime Greensboro, NC, sportscaster, died Monday of a heart attack at age 65. Rich liked to go the extra mile -- literally -- to get the story. He was a big NASCAR fan and did much to popularize the sport on TV.

Rich was great to everyone. When I moved in the area to be an editor at a community paper, he called me during my first week to welcome me and became a good friend very quickly. We emailed often, and he always had time to help young journalists through rough times...and you could bet that he'd send you a Facebook message on your birthday. Great, great man

Worked at NBC's Chicago station for a couple of years. I remember few people from that era, but he seemed to be a good guy on the air. Good to know he was off the air as well. RIP.
