Hey, guys, want to blog about your fave HS football team for Patch? Now you can! A bunch of these just went out in the Cleveland area:

It all sounded too good to be true. Write about any sport, as much or as little as I want and all my work gets "featured front and center." No deadlines! (Yay!). I'm thinking, how do they make money on something like this? With opportunities like this, why are newspapers doing so badly?

Then I get to the last graph. Totally devastated...

Patch bloggers are not paid and they own the content they produce. So if you are already blogging and want to share with our readers, too, let us know.

AOL chief executive says he plans to close, sell or find partners for the approximately 300 Patch sites that have no hope of breaking even.

    Stunning.

I'm sure Moddy and the other Fanhouse alumni didn't see that coming.

Patch update: The employees are going to have to wait an agonizing week to find out whether they'll be fired, and 500 sites will be cut. One high-ranked staffer was fired on the spot this morning for pulling out a camera: http://jimromenesko.com/2013/08/09/patch-staffers-will-be-laid-off-and-sites-closed-over-the-next-7-days/

It sucks that the employees are left twisting in the wind. I was at a City Council meeting last night with the Patch editor in my paper's town and he's a nervous wreck, though I'm guessing his site will be safe.

It is so unfair to make them wait.

We are officially into clown show territory:
