The Star Press maintains a state and national award-winning sports section and now seeks a talented and ultra-motivated sports writer to continue that level of excellence for its readers.

The open position is for primary prep sports writer. Located in Muncie, Ind., The Star Press covers some of the state’s most well-known, history-rich prep programs in both boys basketball and girls volleyball.

Interested applicants must have a minimum of two years of experience in the sports reporting field and must possess the skills to write varying types of stories — gamers, features, long-term enterprise and investigative pieces.

Applicants must be able to flourish — and have fun — in the face of daily deadlines while writing clean and concise copy that appeals to the masses.

Position requires monitoring of and reporting on 19 high schools in five counties that make up East Central Indiana. Position also requires agate desk work and nightly page proofing and copy editing.

Position requires nights and weekend work with a varying schedule from week to week.

While applicants must present materials that prove the ability to produce top-notch sports writing and reporting, special attention will be paid to applicants with professional experience and/or a background that includes significant social media integration with reporting.

Send cover letter, resume, references and work samples to sports editor Greg Fallon at gfallon@muncie.gannett.com. PDFs are preferred.

It's Gannett. Like furloughs, low quality, understaffing and layoffs? 'nuff said.
