You may take home enough that $1,000 is irrelevant to you, but there are many millions of paycheck to paycheck Americans who don't have the money to be out buying up staple foods and other supplies that will allow them to shelter at home. If I were in that boat and I had a wife and a couple of young kids at home, I'd have been frantic with worry. If all you had to try to get ready was a few hundred dollars you scraped up by deciding not to pay your bills on time, that thousand dollars looks like a lifeline.

 

Trump not only has no compassion, he is incapable of understanding the concept. How on earth can you become a politician and get good enough at it to be elected President without understanding that one of your most important jobs is to be a figurehead, to project strength, courage, compassion when there is a crisis?

I don't want Trumpist states to get this thing as others have. I want it to stop now. (It won't, of course.) But from this, it does appear that the Trumpists are in denial.
