Aren't we past the sophomore-year-in-college interview strategies? Real people need real jobs, not really dated pants points. I can't tell you how many qualified peers, who either have been laid off or are anticipating the possibility, have struggled to get face time with an interviewer. There are solid job sites, but like open houses for real estate, they seem more like card/resume-collecting spots rather than bridges to employment.

That mug of Colleen Eddy is outdated. If she wants a job these days, she needs to get rid of the shoulder pads and the 80s hair.

Tan pants. Why do I buy tan pants, Donna? I don't feel comfortable in them.

I use Wikipedia all the time. Then I double-check it through other means.

The most important skill a reporter can have is: learn to use ALL the tools at your disposal, not just the newest ones. And that is especially true, the younger you are.

Because these days, for my generation, knowing Google and YouTube and Wikipedia and Facebook puts you in the middle of the pack. We all grew up on that stuff. ... What puts you ahead is being able to dig for information away from the Internet.

What a bunch of useless suggestions. First off, don't just learn how to use the Internet, learn how to add to it. Learn how to make and post videos online. Create a blog or website that people want to read. Put it upon yourself to distribute credible and reliable information on a regular basis.
As for interview techniques, reputation and references outweigh appearance any day. At least it has in my experience. Dress professionally, but rely on your experience to impress employers. The people I have talked to are more interested in what and who I know rather than what I am wearing. It's not an awards show, it's a job interview.
