Apparently the American 70-somethings are spending too much of their time tending to the poor and taking on African warlords and aren't fully committed to fighting the abortionists and Teh Gayz. (The order itself refers to "radical feminism" in the ranks.)

Even Netflix can't set out to alienate the base quite like the Catholic Church can.

And yet we all have family and friends who blindly go and toss them money weekly. It's baffling.

If they want to get rid of Teh Gayz, they could start in their own rectories.

Shockingly shockingly they have little interest in doing so.

Yeah, not a big fan of this Pope.

He's been pretty much a complete dud, and now he's even adding to the damage by outliving the fingers-of-one-hand life expectancy most had when he came in.

Of course doctrinally he's carried on most of the themes of JPII, but unlike him he has been utterly unable to project the image of personal likability that made him such a superstar. JPII was like your kind but firm uncle; Benedict like your perpetually grouchy grandpa.

Kind of related, I guess. I haven't laughed this hard in a while.

The Holy See gives not the first shit what we Americans and Europeans think. We ain't its growth market. The third world is what the last two popes have played toward. And that's sad, considering that not coming down hard on birth control could sure help in countries that have a heck of a lot of problems feeding everyone

Ugh. So dismayed...not that I ever expected anything else.

I re-posted this on Facebook. I really try to defend Catholicism and then the Vatican comes along and ruins everything.

Ireland is trying to do just that. Three guesses as to who thinks that's a horrible idea.
