Sadly, the P-I is a slam dunk to be next.

Hard to see the San Francisco Chronicle folding.

Philly Daily News? I know the owners deny it will close, but still ..............

The problem with the poll aspect is... you need to list like 20 more publications (and a few chains) to give an accurate sample.

Tip of the hat to my friend, bdangelo, for the name check. :)

By the way, I dropped Jerry Lewis to pick up Ed McMahon.

And I picked "other" in the poll.

Edited, 8:30 p.m.: Shoulda picked up Paul Harvey instead. Damn.

    Seattle.

I'm more curious as to which town will have its *last* major metro fold?

Though I guess my answer is still Seattle.

That was going to be my next thread. Seattle, Denver, Detroit, Cincy, Baltimore, Atlanta would be the leading candidates.

I can't see why this poll would be any, how can I say it, "sillier" than some of the polls I see during a week's time on the Web and elsewhere. I mean, there are polls on everything from when Britney Spears will have her next hair change to predicting the next big leaguer to have his name revealed in the Mitchell Report.
this is what folks are talking about. sad, but true.
let's just all hope all of the papers listed on the poll won't be shut down.

The P-I is next, I'd say.

I think a chain reaction happens from that point. Tampa Tribune, pick a Detroit paper, Miami Herald. I'd like to think the San Francisco Chronicle survives. Can't see Gannett closing Cincinnati. Will be very interested to see what Tribune Co. does as it works its way out of bankruptcy re: Baltimore.

I have no idea what is going to happen in Detroit. I agree the next two will be Tampa and the PI. Who knows what order it will be. It blows my mind that things are so bad at The Miami Herald and the AJC, so I would like to hope they can figure something out, although that might be overly optimistic on my part.

Here's the good news - you won the newspaper death pool.

Here's the bad news - you picked your own newspaper. We have no nice parting gifts for you.

Nope. Didn't pick mine. And don't know where the "gone by June 1" information came from. Telemarketers are not reliable. At least, I'd like to think not. And Reformed Hack knows what I mean here, too (smile).
