I live in one of the most talked about House districts — NJ 7th, which is Lance/Malinowski. I really wonder how the general dislike of Menendez will impact turnout and voting.

Menendez is a lock to win or no?

Not a lock. 95%. About the same as Cruz, maybe a little better.

Polls say yes. But my town, which is filled with the type of highly educated women who are excited to vote Lance out (and hold weekly protests in front of his office in town), is anecdotally very anti-Menendez.

I'm still very unfamiliar with NJ politics but both (Menendez, Hugin) seem to have a high sleaze factor.

The fact that they couldn’t convince Menendez to drop out is ridiculous. There is a huge anti-GOP sentiment, based on how Gov. Sandwiches cared only about his political ambitions and Trump is despised. Hugin seems very generic but no one is seeing a mid-range pharma CEO as some sort of a hero.

The real sleaze in NJ is at the local and state government level. I have some good friends who are very involved and are real idealists and the stuff which they tell me goes on in Essex and Hudson counties is insane.

The sad thing (or one of them) about corruption in New Jersey is that it seems completely endemic. I grew up in the Garden State and I thought that once the mafia mostly went away it would tamp down. But nope.

(I realise that the mob is still there and that this isn't the 70s anymore. Still...)

If the Democratic majority DOESN'T pull out the kitchen sink and everything else to obstruct him, the massive anti-Trump base will explode. People have had enough of the pig.

About New Jersey, a true story from long ago. It was in the '70s when the casino legalization referendum was on the ballot. One of my best friends from high school was at Temple dental school at the time. We're in his room getting stoned with his roommate, a nice guy from Jersey, and were talking about the referendum. He said he was gonna vote no, because casinos could lead to organized crime having too much influence in the state. Closest I ever came to choking to death, and on smoke at that.

    Hmmm.

We could end up with a 50-50 split, and 8-10 GOP senators in states with newly elected Democratic governors.

    Hmmm.

Much as I'd like to see the Dems win both houses, gaining the House seems the best bet.
