Police say Ray Rice is a big Lawrence Phillips fan

Maybe the last guy before Rice to play in The NFL from Westchester was Bob
Hyland in mid 60's . Not exactly a football hotbed.

Rice also has gotten good props from Boomer and Carton show because Carton also went to NR HS. Will be interesting to hear what they say now.

After Dennis Potvan was arrested for beating his wife, Ranger fans
dumped the "Potvin sucks" chant and switched over to
"Beat your wife Potvin, beat your wife".

    Boomer is from Suffolk County.
Just as unlikely an origin for an NFL player.

I hate this "they're just animals" BS. We're talking about pathological torturing and killing of other living things with one's bare hands. You're telling me someone who does that isn't, at very least, as deprived as someone who hits his wife once on camera?

Your other paragraph is bullshit rationalization for people forgiving Vick, when you know damn well it's only because he plays quarterback well.

Unless you think Jim Fucking Sorgi would've been welcomed back like that had he been in a similar situation.

    Is it that rare?

Not many even get D1 scholarships. So, just getting a scholarship to Rutgers was a big deal for a New Rochelle guy.

The QB on my brother's Iona Prep team (20 years ago) got a scholarship to Maryland, but he was one of the few.

It isn't about what I think. It's about the public perception.

    Also, again: Tape.

Doesn't top "Buy a Porsche Hextall, buy a Porsche."

The public perception: If he helps my team win games, it's much easier to forgive him.

Over the years, good players in every sport have gotten away with some seriously despicable shit.

To think THIS is the straw that breaks the camel's back is insane.

Yeah, like it or not, there were some who tried to excuse or mitigate the dog fighting by representing it as a cultural thing for African-Americans.

    Video is a huge deal.

Video is what made the Rodney King case so big, and so emotional.

Video also lends itself to TV, obviously. TV can run that video every time Rice's name comes up. That keeps the story alive much longer.

I don't think Ray Rice will ever play another game in the NFL.

    I think I agree.
