You probably know people who use it. You just don't realize it.

Sometimes it does happen that way, believe it or not.

I have a friend who's been clean for almost eight years, and had his moment of clarity when a bunch of us were on vacation and he got so fucked up he ended up getting arrested in a casino.

He said he saw his mugshot and decided he couldn't live that life anymore.

I do have a buddy who is a cancer survivor who openly yaps about still using Oxy. That gives me pause. As far as actual H, you may be right. I would think some of the younger crowd from the bar at my old stomping grounds probably fucked with it. I know they fuck with coke and weed.

Then they are well on their way.

By definition, if they're at that point, they're not rational people. I don't think anyone actually thinks they can use as much as they want because there's always Narcan. And I doubt anyone who doesn't use would be more inclined to start because of Narcan.

What about drunks? Should we just pour booze down their throats til they die of alcohol poisoning?

It's a bad, bad thing -- I've never done it (the Len Bias death automatically made me NEVER want to do any hard drug) but I've covered the rise and influence of heroin over the past decade here in the Midwest. It's truly awful and it even gets people you wouldn't think would get hooked.

This picture reminded me of the Breaking Bad episode (third season, perhaps, as I was never a diehard) where the meth/heroin parents have this toddler who hasn't bathed in months and is malnourished. The two addicts die and Jesse takes the kid to the front porch, calls the cops and says, "good luck, kid".

It's a chilling sequence for any parent.

  10. They do it themselves. Legally. And how many folks bat an eye?

We tried the war on alcohol.
We tried the war on drugs.
    Demand never goes away. Ever.
Let them have it. Buy it and poison themselves.

Overhaul the welfare system. Pay folks - including teens - NOT to have kids.

Sorry, I have ZERO sympathy for addicts. None.
Those folks should be shot. They contribute nothing to society but a kid who's starting out behind the 8-ball.
    Fuck 'em.

My sister and hubsband recently adopted two foster kids. Wonderful, beautiful, sweet kids. Two and five. The 5-year-old started school this year. She LOVES it.
They are great kids, who don't seem to have any issues yet.
Their parents .. Mom od'd and died and the husband went to jail.

  11. I am opposed to forcing cops and first responders to carry Narcon.
Schools in WV are not carrying it. Schools!?!? Honestly, not one has used it yet.

Are the folks being revived going straight from the hospital to their next score - as in walk out the ER door and to their dealer? Probably not, but I would not be surprised if they are high within 24/48/72 hours.
I also doubt the folks being revived from the OD are heading rehab either.

One more thing: look at the police reports on a daily basis ... By large it's the same fucking names day after day, week after week, for the same shit; drugs, DV, petty crime.... The same sorry SOBs. When one dies another one replaces him. 85/95 percent of the daily arrests are the same dregs for the same bullshit.
