My bad, I thought Ronan was a firefighter, maybe he was the official singer for the firefighters or something. Apparently I will have to look that one up.

Nope, I was just wrong. No relation to firefighters at all.

Take Me Out To The Ballgame.

    Worked for quite a while.

And ijag, your obsession with our Japanese friend is disturbingly predictable.

Friend of mine I used to work with called him the Fat Irish Tenor and loved to curse out the TV any time he came out to sing. And I can't say that I disagree with him.

I was hoping MLB would drop "God Bless America" after five years, which seemed like a good place to stop. "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" is a much better selection for the seventh inning stretch, no matter the time or place.

Some stadiums have gone back to Take me out to the ball game, some do God Bless America, some do both.

I personally don't mind either way.

EDIT: Was that Paula Cole? I didn't recognize her. She looked like she's become a bit . . . .zaftig.

Also: IJAG, for what it's worth, Ichiro's stretches and variations of them are actually somewhat common among Japanese baseball players in the Japan League. Not sure how many of those in MLB have brought it over, but a lot of dudes in the Japan League do similar stuff. Or at least they try . . .Ichiro Suzuki is of course one of the great baseball players in the world, and maybe the best Japan has produced.

    He's certainly the most flexible.

This probably isn't as funny as I found it, but I laughed out loud at this one.

The reason I refuse to listen to "God Bless America" at a baseball game is because it's essentially "God Bless the Yankees." How much money has Steinbrenner made off tragedy? Even he probably can't count that high. The combo of Fox and MLB turned the 2001 postseason into a guilt-inducing cheerleading session for the Yankees, who, as we know, were the only victims of 9/11.

I know Ronan is the primary singer but I'm pretty sure the Yankees have had one of the NYC firefighters do the stretch a few times. I think it was a hispanic guy and I remember him being really good.

    Me, too.

Gay Porn Sidenote: Took my nephew to a ballgame a couple years back and there was this really nice usher who was handing out baseball cards to kids as they walked past. Just kind of "nice old man" thing. We got down to our seats and I ask my nephew, "who'd you get, Mikey." He can't read it, so he hands it to me ... it's Tadano. Couldn't really explain to the 4-year-old why I started laughing.

I love the fact that we can have a post with the lead-in "Gay Porn sidenote" and no one will really think twice.

Can we get back to Ichiro and stop talking about Kaz?
