I hear he is a control freak prick with no personality.

But that's just the word on the street.

I'm hearing the pundits talk up the notion that Schaub would replace Vick. I think it's possible the Falcons are using the media to perpetuate that notion in order to up Schaub's trade value.

You don't bring in a so-called "offensive wizard" to coach Matt Schaub.

Schaub is a West Coast Offense specialist. I'm assuming that scheme will now be out in Atlanta.

I interviewed Petrino once-- couldn't have been more pleasant. Cracked a memorable joke while we were mic'ing him up.

Pitino -- oh, what a coincidence, up until now Petrino and Pitino shared the same work address! -- did the same thing after he took Providence to the Final Four. Anyone believing that Petrino would last even three years into the deal was foolish.

Here I think is a big part of the problem. Saban's actual words never took him out of the running for that job. He ducked and dodged for weeks and was back into saying "I guess I have to say it - I will not be the Alabama coach" after all his flimsy denials didn't stick and he was still being pressed on it. Hell, even then it didn't take a whole lot of common sense to know he was not necessarily being honest there.

Petrino just took a tough job, because he has to decide, somewhat quickly, what to do about Vick. This is, by all acounts, a team with 11-5 or 12-4 talent on both sides of the ball, but there are games where Vick simply implodes. His 10-yard sacks are drive killers. And, frankly, now that Vince Young is most exciting player at the position...

Then again, the West Coast was always a rotten fit. He's meant to be in a spread, which Petrino will bring. He needs to have four wides, big passing lanes, less play action. Turning Vick's back to the defense so he fake a handoff is like giving Houdini three less seconds to escape.

Grossman, for what it's worth, struggles with the same thing. I dunno why you ask a short QB to limit their viewing time executing a fake when they have trouble picking up coverages and defenders.

Considering that Blanks talked about grooming their quarterbacks, I'm guessing that means Schaub isn't out of the picture there just because. I'm sure Petrino would have taken the job unless he could pick who he wanted to go with.

Is it just me or does Petrino look like Jack Lemmon?

For what it's worth, I came across a funny article about Petrino leaving Louisville here.....

Seems like every coach has got an itch....

But Petrino, Saban ... these guys aren't NEARLY as bad as Herm Edwards! He's a fraud!
Man, that Herm Edwards is more of a fraud than any of these slimy coaches.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I have to think Blank told Petrino something like "I've put 132 cajillion dollars into Vick, so he's your quarterback."
