Not whether or not you would have one or want a girl you got pregnant to have one, but have you ever been faced with actually having to make the deicision.

    Sorry, couldn't resist

    6 am day after christmas
I throw some clothes on in
    The dark
    The smell of cold
    Car seat is freezing
    The world is sleeping and
    I am numb
Up the stairs to her apartment
She is balled up on the couch
Her mom and dad went down
    To charlotte
Theyre not home to find us
    Out
    And we drive
Now that I have founds someone
    Im feeling more alone
    Than I ever have before

    Chorus
Shes a brick and Im drowning
    Slowly
Off the coast and Im headed
    Nowhere
Shes a brick and Im drowning
    Slowly

They call her name at 7:30
I pace around the parking lot
Then I walk down to buy her
    Flowers
And sell some gifts that I got
    Cant you see
Its not me youre dying for
    Now shes feeling more alone
    Than she ever has before

    Chorus

    As weeks went by
It showed that she was not fine
They told me son its time
    To tell the truth
And she broke down and I broke
    Down
cause I was tired of lying
    Driving back to her apartment
    For the moment were alone
    Shes alone
    And Im alone
    Now I know it

    Chorus

When that song came out, I thought it was about an AIDS test. Oops.

Hey farrar: what song is that?

    Slayer weighs in:

    Silent Scream
    by Slayer

    Nightmare, the persecution
    A childs dream of death
    Torment, ill forgotten
A soul that will never rest

    Guidance, it means nothing
In a world of brutal time
    Electric, circus wild
    Deep in the infants mind

    Silent scream
    Bury the unwanted child
    Beaten and torn
    Sacrifice the unborn

    Shattered, adolescent
    Bearer of no name
    Restrained, insane games
    Suffer the children condemned

    Scattered, remnants of life
    Murder a time to die
    Pain, suffrage toyed
    Lifes little fragments destroyed

    Silent scream
    Crucify the bastard son
    Beaten and torn
    Sanctify lives of scorn

    Life preordained
    Humanity maintained
    Extraction termination
    Pains agonizing stain

    Embryonic death
    Embedded in your brain
    Suffocation, strangulation
    Death is fucking you insane

    Nightmare, the persecution
    A childs dream of death
    Torment, ill forgotten
A soul that will never rest

    Innocence withdrawn in fear
    Fires burning can you hear
    Cries in the night

I thought it was funny when you missed the train
When I rang you at home they said you'd left yesterday
I thought it was strange when your car was found
By the tree in Ennis where we used to hang around
Dear Isobel, I hope you're well and what you've done is right
Oh it's been such hell, I wish you well, I hope you're safe tonight
It's been a long day coming and long will it last
When it's last day leaving, and I'm helping it pass
    By loving you more
And who would he become, all the things he'd have done
Would he loved you and not let you down
And would he be stronger than his father
Don't punish yourself, leave it well alone
Dear Isobel, I hope you're well and what you've done is right
Oh it's been such hell, I wish you well, I hope you're safe tonight
It's been a long day coming and long will it last
When it's last day leaving, and I'm helping it pass
    By loving you more

That's what I thought, too. Didn't realize it was about abortion until I fell upon Ben Folds' wikipedia entry a few weeks ago.

So is the ending talking about an abortion that had complications or was it talking about how everyone came to see the girl was pregnant, thus leading to the Boxing Day trip to the clinic?

As already noted, Brick by the Ben Folds Five.
On one of the concert DVDs, Ben Folds does a little monologue about the song.
Real-life deal, he took his girlfriend to the abortion clinic when he was younger.

My guess has always been that the girl regretted having the abortion and that explains the last bit.

Jonah: "You know what I think you should do? Take care of it."
Jay: "Tell me you don't want him to get an 'A' word."
Jonah: "Yes, I do, and I won't say it for little Baby Ears over there, but it rhymes with 'Shmashmortion.' I'm just saying-- Hold on, Jay, cover your ears. You should get a shmashmortion at the shmashmotion clinic."

    "Goodbye Baby"
Written by Stevie Nicks; performed by Fleetwood Mac

Don't take me to the tower
    And take my child away
    It was I who was
    The hourglass
And the sands of time like
    Shattering glass went past me
Like a tunnel to the sea
And I who went to sleep as two
Woke up as one now only you remain
You'll close your eyes and travel back
To the time when the light went fading fast
And the words you'll never, never forget, oh no
    As you slipped away
    Goodbye baby
I hope your heart's not broken
    Don't forget me
    Yes I was outspoken
You were with me all the time
I'll be with you one day
And I who went to sleep in tears
Woke up in tears, for all of the years
And I who never, never said goodbye
    As I slipped away
    Goodbye baby
I hope your heart's not broken
    Don't forget me
    Yes I was outspoken
You were with me all the time
I'll be with you one day
    Goodbye baby
I hope your heart's not broken
    Don't forget me
    Yes I was outspoken
You were with me all the time
I'll be with you one day
Yes, I'll be with you one day

Did they tear it out with talons of steel, and give you a shot so that you
    wouldn't feel?
And washed it away as if it wasn't real?
    It's just a mistake I won't have to face, don't give it a name, don't give
    it a place
Don't give it a chance, it's lucky in a way.
It must have felt strange to find me inside you, I hadn't intended to stay,
If you want to keep it right, put it to sleep at night, squeeze it until it
    could say

You can't be too strong, you can't be too strong, you can't be too strong,
Can't be too strong, you decide what's wrong.

Well I ain't gonna cry, I'm gonna rejoice, and shout myself dry and go see
    the boys,
They'll laugh when I say I left it overseas
Yeah babe, I know it gets dark, down by Luna Park, but everybody else is
    squeezing out a spark,
That happened in the heat, somewhere in the dark.
The doctor gets nervous completing the service, he's all rubber gloves and
    no head,
Yes, he fumbles the light switch, it's just another minor hitch, wishes to
    God he was dead.

But you can't be too strong, you can't be too strong, you can't be too strong,
Can't be too strong, you decide what's wrong
Can't be too hard, too tough, too rough, too right, too wrong
