Perhaps inane number crunching vis-a-vis Larry Wayne Jones

    (ijag and agatepage, get you some tylenol) The requirement is 502 plate appearances. He has 70 hits now. 140 hits at .400 equals 350 at-bats, which would require 152 walks+sacs+hbp. Not likely even in a full season -- his career high combination in those categories was in 1999 (126 walks, 6 sac flies, 2 HBP), and that was in 157 games. Probably the minimum number of at-bats he could get have and still qualify is 415 or so.

    Here's how hard it is to stay above .400: You can go 2-for-5 in a game and your average will drop.
